06 Ageing is a cause for celebration and with its new Active Ageing Strategy, the City of Unley plan to help its residents get the most out of their lives. Gone are the days when Australians didn’t expect to live past the age of 50 - most of us now expect to live past 80 and be healthy while doing it. In fact, Australians born today can expect to live 35 years longer than those born 100 years ago. Back in 2012, the City of Unley was the first Council in South Australia to gain membership of the World Health Organisation’s Global Net work of Age-Friendly Cities. As the first local government authority in South Australia to embrace the reality of an ageing population, the City of Unley put together a comprehensive strategy to ensure ageing residents have fun while doing so.
