Spending the day with happy, playful pooches may sound like a dream job but it is a reality for local dog walker Kirsty King. “It’s hard to have a bad day when you spend it with dogs,” Ms King says. Having moved from Sydney to Adelaide to be with her partner, Goodwood resident Ms King decided to star t her own dog walking business to combine her love of dogs with her previous study of animal behaviour – and as a way to get to know her local area. “I love living in the City of Unley. There are so many beautiful parks and places to take dogs. There’s a real sense of community. Everyone knows the names of the dogs I walk and they stop to say hello.” A day of dog walking begins early for Ms King, usually picking up the first pooch around 7.30am and finishing at dusk. “ T hey’re always happy to see me and if I’m running even the slightest bit late, they’ll be waiting at the gate for me!” Each dog is scheduled into Ms King’s calendar and their activity for the day tailored to suit their personality and energy levels. Some enjoy a leisurely walk while others love to chase a ball at the park. “I also might take them to a vet appointment or to the groomers. Each day is different and that’s what I love about it,” Ms King explains.
