UNLEYLIFE 13 Dennis Ashby Butcher It’s never too late to add new strings to your bow, says Dennis Ashby, who at 73, has entered his first competition and cleaned up. Dennis runs Arkaba Meats butchery at Fullarton and still loves what he does and has no immediate plans to retire his trusty knives. Dennis won first places for his chicken sausages, beef sausages, chicken and spinach sausages, pork chops and whole smoked chicken. He also won the major trophy for Champion Gourmet Exhibit at an Adelaide Hills Country Show, which he now proudly displays in his shop, Arkaba Meats at Arkaba Village Shopping Centre Fullar ton. I have been a Butcher for... 60 years I have worked in the City of Unley for... 15 years My earliest memory (or first impression) of the area... I arrived from Perth in 1974 and star ted working at a Butcher on Unley Road. My first impression was that it was a fantastic prosperous area with a lot more foot traf fic and far less road traf fic than there is today. What I love about the area is... The people My favourite local café/business/ park is... A Mother Milk, Unley Road My favourite thing to do in my spare time is... Breeding and showing Burmese cats I love what I do because... I love interacting with people I am inspired by... Business positivity in the area and young people. We employ a lot of young people who work after school and during the school holidays.
