- make a difference - COUNCIL ELECTIONS -2018- 18 MAYOR Michael Hewitson Rosslyn and I have lived in Unley for over 17 years. My children and grandchildren life here too. I love Unley and am proud of what it offers us all. If I have the honour to serve as your Mayor, I will strive to make Unley greener, more liveable, more accountable and more affordable for ratepayers. I will start by driving my own vehicle, saving ratepayers $50,000. A microbiologist and teacher, career highlights include establishing Trinity College Gawler and now continuing work to improve Australia’s education systems. Having served in Council for 12 years, now Deputy Mayor, I look forward to doing even more to improve this beautiful place we live in. What’s important to you is important to me, including: Restoring our tree cover and safe walking and cycling: A Council that delivers your core needs well: Capping Council rates to drive efficiency, creativity and quality. www.michaelhewitsonmayor.org Dario Centrella Community-focused, independent and standing to protect our heritage and character whilst opposing overdevelopment. With a diverse background (programmer (BCompSc, Adelaide University), artist, CAD technician, manager of an organic food business), I favour sustainable solutions and productivity, not rent-seeking behaviour. I’ll strive to increase the transparency of council operations, improve amenity, tree cover, native plantings, and reduce council’s use of single-use plastics. I support limiting council spending to restrain rate rises. Improving our main precincts is also achievable with better lighting, design competitions, quality architecture, pedestrian-friendliness (especially on summer events) and transport options all ages can enjoy Unley has been Adelaide’s most densely populated region – I’ll fight to limit building heights along Unley Mainstreet/Greenhill Rd to 3-4 storeys, encouraging liveable, versatile development that respects Unley’s history. Excessive density would be disincentivised via rates, to facilitate land acquisition for green space. I’d be honoured to represent you. (Ph. 0404-775-272). Bob Schnell I am a Goodwood Ward Councillor (for almost 20 years and Deputy Mayor for 3 years). For the past 2 years I’ve been a volunteer with the Unley Home Library delivering books to the elderly. I will bring to the role of Mayor commitment, leadership, experience and common sense. I care about our community and I do listen and follow-up. I am not a member of any political party. I support rate capping to keep rate rises low. I want to go back to basics to reduce the number of big costly projects, re-focus on fixing smaller local issues in our streets and communities eg. Footpaths (a more rapid response to fix trip hazards), plant more street trees, more green verges, increase funding for local traffic management solutions, reduce fees for residential parking permits, promote environmentally friendly initiatives and more family friendly events. I ask for your support.
